Subject: {MabCyberClub} Metro North : Phone booths for the disabled by next
year

Phone booths for the disabled by next year

PENANG is ready to introduce disabled-friendly public telephone booths
by the end of the year.

Penang Municipal Council councillor Muhammad Sabri Md Osman said two
telecommunication companies were already planning with the council to
install this type of public telephone booths.

"Among the guidelines set by the council for the companies are at
least one disabled-friendly public telephone booth in shopping
complexes, government offices and public places such as the ferry
terminal, bus station and airport," he said.

He said the disabled-friendly telephone booth should also be placed
near information centres.

They should be easily visible with a big signboard.

"The telephone must be easily reachable for those on wheelchairs and
have a foldable seat for those with mobility problems.

"The coin slot should be between 0.90m and 1.20m from the ground," he
said after the council meeting held at the City Hall recently.

He said the phone should have push buttons with Braille font for the
visually impaired.

"The space of the booth should be around 1.2m by 0.85m.

"There must be no obstructions in the area to allow the disabled to
access the booth either from the front or the sides," he said.

He said the telephone wire should also be at least 0.75m in length.

SANTAI TENGAH HARI

Do I have to eat my vegetables raw to attain the full nutritional benefit of the food?

No. Although it would be necessary to eat your vegetables raw in order to prevent any loss of nutrients whatsoever, I believe that it is possible to get the full, practical nutritional benefits from a food that has been cooked, provided that the cooking method is uniquely matched to the food and exposes the food to minimal damage. Here's my thinking:

While most animals thrive on diets consisting almost exclusively of raw, uncooked food, few human cultures have evolved or been sustained without incorporating some cooked foods, including cooked vegetables, into their eating practices. In the case of some vegetables, cooking can actually enhance the variety of nutrients that get released inside our digestive tract. The cooking of onions and garlic are good examples. Onions and garlic are both members of the Allium family of vegetables. Most vegetables in this family have unusual amounts of sulfur-containing compounds that can help protect our health. Heat can actually increase the variety of sulfur-containing substances found in onions and garlic since it triggers chemical reactions that create variations in those sulfur compounds.

Cooking each food properly is essential

Food research has made it clear that even 30 seconds in steam will alter the nutrient composition of a vegetable and will cause some loss of nutrients. However, when the exposure to steam happens for such a short time, this loss of nutrients is minimal and is not, in my opinion, a practical problem. What I believe is critical, however, is to treat every vegetable as a unique food, which has its own unique cooking requirements. To avoid unnecessary nutrient loss, cooking each food properly is absolutely essential. Five extra minutes of cooking can make an enormous difference in the nutritional quality of a meal. (This is about the time it takes to walk away from the stove, answer the phone, and say that you can't talk right now because you are in the middle of cooking.)

In addition, every food is unique and should be treated that way when it comes to cooking temperatures and times. For example, to preserve its nutrients, spinach should not be boiled for more than one minute. Kale, on the other hand, needs to steam for 5 minutes for proper nutrient availability. The write-ups for each food included in The World's Healthiest Foods book explain just how to cook each food to retain its nutritional benefits. The directions for each recipe are tailored to meet the cooking requirements of the ingredients being used.

Excessive cooking equals nutrient loss

The traditional rules about heat, water, time, and nutrient loss are all true. The longer a food is exposed to heat, the greater its nutrient loss. Boiling foods (submersing a food in boiling water) results in more nutrient loss than steaming (surrounding a food with steam), if all other factors are equal. The lower nutrient loss from steaming is the main reason this method of cooking is so often recommended in our recipes. No valid reason exists to expose food to high heat and boiling water for any prolonged period of time; even butternut squash can be fully cooked when steamed for 7 minutes if cut into small pieces!

Raw vegetables may not always be best

Even when eating raw vegetables, other factors must be considered when evaluating the nutritional quality of the food. How fresh is the raw vegetable? Significant nutrient loss occurs in raw vegetables if they have been picked too long before they are eaten and have been exposed too long to light and air. How well will you chew the raw vegetables before swallowing them? When a food is not cooked, the body depends much more heavily upon chewing to help prepare the vegetable for digestion. Cooking a vegetable, even for a very short period like one minute, can sometimes become a way of enhancing its digestibility.

Practical Tips

I encourage you to enjoy both raw and cooked vegetables in your Healthiest Way of Eating. By chewing well and savoring the tastes and textures of your raw food and by following my cooking suggestions that make the most of each food's unique cooking requirements, you will get optimal nutritional benefits from both!

RESIPI; Ketupat Sotong

Aha,  pernahkah anda makan ketupat sotong?

Apa kata hari ini,  kita beralih rasa.  Kalau selalunya,  sotong dibuat lauk,  tapi petang karang, kita makan ketupat sotong pula.

Ketupat sotong:

Bahan-bahan:

5 ekor Sotong bersaiz sedang,

Santan kelapa, setengah biji,  asingkan santan pekat.

Secawan beras pulut, mengikut kuantiti dan saiz sotong.

2 ulas bawang putih,  5 ulas bawang merah,  seinci halia,  mayangkan semua,  dan;

Sesudu kecil halba.

Cara-cara:

Bersihkan sotong,, keluarkan tulang, buang lapisan kulit luar.

Beras pulut;  bersihkan beras,  kemudian campurkan sedikit santan cair, secubit garam,

Gaulkan sehingga sebati.

Nota:  jangan masukkan beras pulut terlalu penuh.  Kerana beras pulut akan kembang, bila masak.

Setelah selesai masukkan beras pulut kedalam semua sotong,

Sediakan periuk;

masukkan santan cair, sotong yang berisi pulut,  biarkan ia empuk .

Setelah sotong empuk;

***One, young, academically excellent person went to apply for a
managerial position in a big company.

He passed the first interview.  The director who did the last
interview, made the last decision.

The director discovered from the CV that the youth's academic
achievements were excellent all the way, from the secondary school
until the postgraduate research.  He never had a year when he did not
score.

The director asked, "Did you obtain any scholarships in school?"

The youth answered "none".

The director asked,  " Was it your father who paid for your school fees?"

The youth answered, "My father passed away when I was one year old.
It was my mother who paid for my school fees."

The director asked, " Where did your mother work?"
The youth answered, "My mother worked as a clothes cleaner.

The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a
pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.

The director asked, " Have you ever helped your mother wash the
clothes before?"

The youth answered, "Never, my mother always wanted me to study and
read more books.
Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me."

The director said, "I have a request.  When you go back today, go and
clean your mother's hands and then see me tomorrow morning."

The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high.  When he
went back, he happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands.
His mother felt strange,  but with mixed feelings, she showed her
hands to her son.

The youth cleaned his mother's hands slowly.  His tears fell as he did
that.  It was the first time he noticed that his mother's hands were
so wrinkled and that there were so many bruises in her hands.  Some
bruises were so painful that his mother shivered when they were
cleaned with water.

This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of
hands that washed the clothes every day to enable him to pay the
school fee.  The bruises in the mother's hands were the price that the
mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his
future.

After finishing the cleaning of his mother hands, the youth quietly
washed all the remaining clothes for his mother.

That night, mother and son talked for a very long time.

Next morning, the youth went to the director's office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youth's eyes and asked, " Can
you tell me what  you did and learned yesterday in your house?"

The youth answered, " I cleaned my mother's hands, and also finished
cleaning all the remaining clothes.'

The Director asked, " Please tell me your feelings."

The youth said,
Number 1, I know now the meaning of appreciation. Without my mother,
there would not be the successful me today.
Number 2, by working together and helping my mother, only now I
realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done.
Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family
relationship.

The director said, " This is what I am looking for in my new  manager.
I want to recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a
person who knows the sufferings of others to get things done, and a
person who would not put money as his only goal in life.  Son,you are
hired."

Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect
of his subordinates.  Every employee worked diligently and as a team.
The company's performance improved tremendously.

A child, who has been over protected and habitually given whatever he
or she  wanted, would develop the entitlement mentality and would
always put himself first.  He would be ignorant of his parent's
efforts.  When he starts work, he assumes that every person must
listen to him, and when he becomes a manager, he would never know the
sufferings of his employees and would always blame others.  This kind
of person, may be good academically and may be successful for a while,
but eventually would not feel a sense of achievement.  He will grumble
and be full of hatred and fight for more.
If we are this kind of protective parents, are we really showing love
or are we destroying the kid instead?*

You can let your kid live in a big house, eat  good meals, learn
piano, watch a big screen TV.  But when you are cutting grass, please
let him experience it.  After a meal, let him wash his plates and
bowls together with his brothers and sisters.  It is not because you
do not have money to hire a maid, but it is because you want to love
him in the right way.  You want him to understand, no matter how rich
his parents are, one day their hair will grow gray, same as the mother
of that young man . The most important thing is your kid learns how to
appreciate the effort and experience the difficulty and learns the
ability to work with others to get things done.

CANTALOUP

What's New and Beneficial About Cantaloupe
Because the flesh of the cantaloupe is often pastel-like in color (compared to
the more vibrant color of fruits like oranges), we sometimes forget how
important cantaloupe can be as a fruit source of vitamin A (in the form of
carotenoids). Researchers have recently measured the carotenoid contents of
six different California-grown cantaloupe hybrids and discovered that their
beta-carotene content can reach levels as high as 3,138 micrograms (per 100
grams of fresh weight). That's about 30 times higher than the beta- carotene
content of fresh oranges. Although this nutrient richness of cantaloupe still
does not place it in the beta-carotene range for fresh carrots here (about
8,300 micrograms), it's still an aspect of this delicious fruit that is
  all-too-frequently overlooked.
At first, we were disappointed in the outcome of a recent French study that
put cantaloupe at the very bottom of the fruits list in terms of its
polyphenol content. In this French study, fruits like strawberries, lychees,
and grapes came out far better in their concentration of antioxidant
polyphenols than cantaloupe, and no fruit scored lower in its concentration of
polyphenols. But then we read about the total amount of polyphenols that
cantaloupe contributed to the average daily diet. When looked at in this
practical context, cantaloupe ranked higher than many other commonly eaten
fruits, including kiwi, grapefruit, and clementines. It also ranked higher
than watermelon and pineapple. Obviously, the higher volume of cantaloupe
consumed helped to offset its lower polyphenol concentration. This practical
principle is important to remember. A health-supportive, whole food like fresh
cantaloupe may show up as being lower in its concentration of certain
nutrients (including total polyphenols), but because we often eat it in
serving sizes that are relatively large, we often get substantial nutrient
benefits, even in the case of nutrients found in lower concentrations.
Intake of cantaloupe has recently been found to lower risk of metabolic
syndrome. In a study involving hundreds of women living and teaching in
Tehran, Iran, the lowest risk of metabolic syndrome was found to occur in
women who ate the greatest amount of fruit. (In this study, the "greatest
amount" meant a minimum of 12 ounces per day.) Five fruits contributed most to
total fruit intake: apples, grapes, cantaloupe, watermelon, and bananas. Women
who consumed the largest amounts of these fruits were also determined to have
the healthiest levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) in their bloodstream. CRP is
an indicator very commonly used to assess levels of inflammation, and it's
very likely that the anti-inflammatory phytonutrients in cantaloupe and other
fruits contributed not only to these participants' healthy levels of CRP but
also to their decreased risk of metabolic syndrome.

HEALTH; Tea

Can you tell me about white tea, and is it true that white tea is even better for you than green tea?

White, green and black tea all come from the same plant (Camellia sinensis), but white tea is made from the unopened leaf buds of the plant, whereas green tea is made from the more mature, opened leaves. (Black tea is also made from mature, opened leaves, but undergoes a controlled fermentation process that results in its darker color.)

Both white and green tea contain a phytonutrient that has been high up on the radar screen in health research. This phytonutrient is a polyphenol called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). EGCG is the primary polyphenol in both white and green tea, and it's a key reason why researchers have been interested in the properties of white tea with respect to prevention of cancer development (tumorigenesis). At this point we only have preliminary animal studies and in vivo laboratory studies in this area. These studies not only fail to look at everyday intake of white tea as part of a daily diet but also often involve specialized extracts made from white tea. But I am hoping that researchers will find enough reason in these preliminary studies to move on to large-scale human studies that examine the potential benefits of white tea drinking in an everyday Healthiest Way of Eating.

I would not call white tea "better" or "worse" for you than green tea. I think of both teas as having health benefits and as being different in their composition.

As always, quality is important when you are purchasing white or green tea, and I recommend organic teas produced by companies that have a reputation for high standards.

'BUKAN PEMINTA SEDEKAH

Seseorang penjual tisu hendaklah

Berpakaian kemas (berkemeja t, berkasut sarung/sendel(

Setiap packet tisu hendaklah diletakkan tanda harga

AKTA ORANG KURANG UPAYA?

"pernah dengar, tapi taktahulah apa tu."

So,  pihak pertubuhan/persatuan OKU hendaklah lebih aktif dalam mengadakan kempen penerangan.

CORN/JAGUNG

The Latest News About Corn

What's New and Beneficial About Corn

·                     You can get health-supportive antioxidant benefits from all varieties of corn, including white, yellow, blue, purple and red corn. But recent research has shown the antioxidant benefits from different varieties of corn actually come from different combinations of phytonutrients. In the case of yellow corn, it's the antioxidant carotenoids leading the way, with especially high concentrations of lutein and zeaxanthin. In the case of blue corn, it's the anthocyanins. There's one particular hydroxybenzoic acid in purple corn - protocatechuic acid - that's also been recently linked to the strong antioxidant activity in this corn variety.

·                     In research on carotenoid antioxidants in food, there has been ongoing debate over the availability of all carotenoids in any particular food if one or two specific carotenoids are present in unusually high amounts. Because yellow corn is a high-carotenoid food that contains highly differing amounts of individual carotenoids, researchers have long wondered whether it is possible to get health benefits from all of the carotenoids in yellow corn when their concentrations are sometimes so different. In yellow cornmeal, the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin fall into the high concentration category and reach a level of 1,355 micrograms per 100 grams. That level is nearly 14 times as high as the level of beta-carotene (97 micrograms per 100 grams). But thanks to recent research, we now know that absorption of beta-carotene from yellow cornmeal is only mildly compromised by the high levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in the cornmeal. In other words, in terms of carotenoid nourishment, we appear to get health benefits from all of corn's diverse carotenoids!

·                     We correctly think about corn as a good source of fiber. Corn is a food that gives us plenty of chewing satisfaction, and its high ratio of insoluble-to-soluble fiber is partly the reason. Past researchers have not been clear, however, about the ability of corn fiber to nourish our lower digestive tract. When you look at foods as a whole, they contain many different types of fiber, and when certain types of fiber reach the lower part of our large intestine (especially certain types of soluble fiber), they can be metabolized by intestinal bacteria into short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This process not only helps support healthy populations of friendly bacteria in our large intestine, but also provides a direct supply of energy (in the form of SCFAs) to the cells that line our large intestine. With this benefit of this extra SCFA energy supply, our intestinal cells can stay healthier and function at a lower risk of becoming cancerous. Recent research has shown that corn can support the growth of friendly bacteria in our large intestine and can also be transformed by these bacteria into SCFAs. These SCFAs can supply energy to our intestinal cells and thereby help lower our risk of colon cancer. The amount of corn fiber analyzed in recent studies has been relatively high at 12 grams per day. That's the same amount provided by about 2.5 cups of fresh corn. While that amount might be more than you would consume at a single meal, it's an amount that you might easily consume over the course of several days. We suspect that future research will demonstrate the risk-reducing effects of smaller amounts of corn consumed over a longer period of time.

WHFoods Recommendations

Of all of the cooking methods we tried when cooking corn, our favorite is Healthy Steaming. We think that it provides the greatest flavor and is also a method that allows for good nutrient retention.

To Healthy Steam fresh corn, fill the bottom of the steamer with 2 inches of water and bring to a rapid boil. Steam corn for 5 minutes. For extra flavor, dress with extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and pepper.

We also suggest the purchase of organically grown corn whenever possible so as to avoid corn that has been genetically modified (GM). Additionally, while not a "Dirty Dozen" food in terms of pesticide residues as evaluated by the U.S. Environmental Working Group (EWG), non-organic, conventionally grown corn has repeatedly been shown to contain organochlorine pesticide residues. Like potential GM risks, potential pesticide risks can be avoided through selection of certified organic corn.

Health Benefits

Corn provide numerous health benefits including:

·                     Antioxidant support

·                     Digestive health benefits

·                     Blood sugar benefits

Nutritional Profile

Antioxidant phytonutrients are provided by all varieties of corn. The exact phytonutrient combination, however, depends on the variety itself. Yellow corn is richer in carotenoids, especially lutein and zeaxanthin. Blue corn has unique concentrations of anthocyanins. Purple corn provides unusual amounts of the hydroxybenzoic acid called protocatechuic acid. Ferulic acid, beta-carotene, vanillic acid, coumaric acid, caffeic acid, and syringic acid are other key phytonutrients provided by corn. Corn is a good source of energy-producing vitamin B1, vitamin B5, and phosphorus; heart-healthy folate and dietary fiber; and free radical-scavenging vitamin C and manganese.

SANTAI IKTIBAR

Selang beberapa kali kemudian,  didapati minda Hadi kembali berfungsi normal.  Tiada lagi tekanan dirasakan.

Moral of the story,  faktor paksaan akan menyebabkan seseorang itu boleh bertindak diluar perilakunya.
